36-24-36 is informed by the idea celebrating female body image beyond it’s title. As a black woman, I seek to express and convey my race and culture and the issues of life in my work. Many of my pieces are a self-conscious expression/personal response to what it means to be a woman of color in this world. Moreover, growing up, I was immersed in the arts both within my family and community with a particular focus on the art of dance, and the theater. As a result, my art is colorful and influenced by dance, movement, and interpretation. I treat my work as if its choreography. I work to discover and incorporate spontaneity and a sense of the unexpected. Curves have always been spoken in the conversation. I work to put the love of myself and the love of my curves out into the universe. My intention: I want the idea of curves to be praised; and the idea of self-love and self-respect to be cherished.
